LIBERTY, Mo. – Nov. 4, 2025 – Clay County Public Health Center (CCPHC) has renewed its
contract to continue providing Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services for federal fiscal
year 2026 with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
In light of the federal government shutdown and related questions about WIC funding
nationwide, Clay County Public Health Center emphasizes that this contract renewal is part of
its regular annual process with the state. The latest update from Missouri WIC is that
participants can continue redeeming benefits in November, and WIC families are encouraged to
keep attending appointments and use their WIC cards as usual.
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program that helps pregnant
women, new mothers, infants, and children under age five who meet income guidelines. The
program provides access to healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and
referrals to health care.
WIC participants get food by using their eWIC card for specific items at participating local
grocery stores and pharmacies. WIC food packages are specially chosen to provide foods high in
protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C. Eligible women and children receive fortified milk
and cheese, eggs, whole grain bread products, hot or cold cereals, 100% fruit juices, fresh or
frozen fruits and vegetables, and more. The WIC food package was recently updated in October
2025 – view the full list.
WIC recommends breastfeeding and provides breastfeeding support, baby foods, and infant
cereal. For women who cannot or choose not to breastfeed, infants may receive supplemental,
iron-fortified formula.
Studies confirm that pregnant women who enroll in WIC during the early months of pregnancy
have fewer low birth weight babies, experience fewer infant deaths, see the doctor earlier in
pregnancy, and eat healthier.
WIC is administered in Clay County by Clay County Public Health Center. Persons interested in
applying or who need more information should contact the Clay County Public Health Center at
