KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City City Council today voted unanimously to repeal prior ordinance action pertaining to the Border War Truce, in alignment with the sunset of prior Missouri legislative action at the close of the most recent Missouri General Assembly.

“As a former Kansas resident in youth and as a long-term Kansas state employee, I value greatly all that our region means to our future, but under the present legal and economic development realities, the Border War Truce has not held," said Mayor Quinton Lucas. "As our peers in Kansas and Missouri have continued to do, in Kansas City we always will advocate strongly for our neighborhoods, our commercial districts, our workers, and our businesses.  Today’s action ensures Kansas City will compete to support a healthy city and healthy region well into the future.”

Ordinance sponsor, Councilman Wes Rogers added, “I was in the legislature when we passed the Border War Truce and I was proud to support it. Our region is better off when our city and both states work together for what’s in everyone’s best interest. Kansas City cannot stand by while development happens all around us. We will do what is required for our city to be a competitive place to conduct business.”

Today’s action ordinance was adopted unanimously by City Council.  The Council’s legislative debate can be found on Kansas City’s YouTube page/Fountain City TV.
