On Friday, August 1, at 10 a.m., Missouri Faith Voices will hold an action at Senator Josh Hawley’s Kansas City office to voice their disappointment about his going against his word and voting to gut Medicaid. The protest will utilize Josh Hawley’s own words. The action will take place in Kansas City at Ilus Davis Park, across the street from the Federal Building, where Hawley's office is located (400 E. 9th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106). Local contact: Dr. Bob Hill 816-5061014
Missouri Faith Voices was encouraged when Josh Hawley wrote his opinion piece in The New York Times and when he spoke out against the bill. On June 16, Missouri Faith Voices shared a sign on letter with Hawley, with nearly 100 clergy signatures from across the state, encouraging him to stay the course and protect Medicaid. With his vote “Yes” to the Big Ugly Bill, Josh Hawley went back on his word and broke Medicaid. Faith and community leaders will remind him of his words and voice disappointment about his betrayal.
The event will include speeches and accounts about those who have been and will be hurt by the cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. Press interviews will be available before and after the press conference.
