Today, the Supreme Court has struck down Affirmative Action - a direct attack on diversity and opportunity in higher education. This ruling is detrimental to African American students seeking a higher education. Once again, the ruling from our nation’s highest court has taken our country a step backwards.

We condemn the action of the Supreme Court to eliminate Affirmative Action which will significantly eliminate the number of minority students accepted into colleges and universities This action will cause a ripple effect that will spread to many other areas such as employment and housing.

Eliminating Affirmative Action, no way stops minority students from being judged unfairly when seeking admission to higher education and does not stop a job applicant from being turned down for a job which they are qualified.

Eliminating Affirmative Action will not level the playing field based on one’s merits but will allow those that are African American to be discriminated against based on race and to be held out of higher educational institutes, better housing, and better employment.

If anyone believes that eliminating Affirmative Action helps our country to live up to all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, is sadly mistaken. The decision ignores the impact of racism within this country and the impact that racism will have on African American students when applying for higher education.

Let’s remember this day and this decision as we go to the polls in 2024. Remember that our African American Civil Liberties are under attack and we as the NAACP will not stand for anyone to take away the rights of all people. The NAACP will fight for equal protection that is due all of us under the constitution. We must remove those in office that want to take our country back to a time of Jim Crow, and when our country closed its eyes to the many racial inequities that faced our nation.
