Prairie Village, Kan. Hosts First MLK Celebration: Honors The Sewings
Donald and Virginia Sewing received the Civil Rights Pioneer award. The Sewings brought racial integration in Johnson County as the first Black family to buy a home in Fairway. They then helped 60 Black families purchase homes. Above, Virginia waves as she accepts the award on her and her late husband’s behalf.
