NAACP Leader Says ‘ ICE is Revitalizing the Masked Violence of the KKK’

The Kansas City Globe e-Edition

In an e-mailed message to supporters and members, Derrick Johnson, president and
CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on
Wednesday called out the federal government’s use of ICE and Border Patrol.
Johnson wrote, “ICE and Border Patrol have adopted the tactics of the KKK’s masked
violence for the same reasons. We’ve seen their playbook before: Anonymity. Fear.
Terror. Division. Unlawful arrests. No due process.
“The deaths of Keith Porter Jr. and Renee Nicole Good are both well-documented and
widely publicized. Less publicized are the 32 people who have died in ICE
custody. These are not isolated tragedies; they are the predictable outcome of a system
that arrogantly rejects transparency and denies justice.
“ This is not about public safety. This is about power. It is about criminalizing
entire communities, disappearing people without due process, and using fear and
unprovoked violence as a weapon to silence dissent and justify abuse.
“When due process is made optional, and accountability is denied, we no longer live in
a democracy, but in a regime that answers to no one but itself.
“ We refuse to be terrorized into silence. We refuse to accept state violence as
normal. And we refuse to let our neighbors be hunted, harmed, or killed without
accountability.
“ This moment requires vigilance and collective action. Speak out. Show up. Join
the fight with NAACP as we demand an end to ICE violence and call for real
accountability now. Lives depend on it!
