Kansas City, Mo – Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas on Thursday announced Kansas City will be
participating in the U.S. Department of State’s inaugural city leadership program, the Assembly of Local
Leaders (ALL), to engage with other mayors and municipal leaders on key issues affecting their
communities. U.S. Department of State Special Representative for City and State Diplomacy Ambassador
Nina Hachigian announced the news today during a global summit in Washington, D.C.

Mayor Lucas will convene with other mayors from cities including Los Angeles, CA; Cleveland, OH;
Phoenix, AZ; and Seattle, WA, to discuss and address global matters impacting cities, including the
climate crisis, public health, foreign investment, and economic development.

“I am proud to join fellow mayors from across the country for the U.S. Department of State’s first-of-its-
kind assembly to discuss global issues impacting our communities, including climate change and
immigration, to help State Department officials better understand these issues and shape more effective
foreign policy for all,” said Mayor Lucas. “As America’s mayors, we are on the frontlines of finding
solutions as world events impact our communities and leading the Assembly of Local Leaders will not
only strengthen our partnership with the State Department, it will also help us play a vital role in solving
global issues. I look forward to convening with other mayors and State Department officials to make our
world a better place for all.”

As a reminder, Mayor Lucas appointed the Mayor’s Commission for New Americans earlier this month to
improve immigrant and refugee inclusion in Kansas City. Engaging Kansas City on more international
issues continues to be a priority of his mayoral term.

The 2024-2026 Assembly of Local Leaders will launch in January 2024.
