KCMO Council Addresses Demands for Local Control of KCPD

The Kansas City, Missouri Mayor and some city council members, responding to demands by some in recent weeks, are considering placing a question to voters on the upcoming November ballot as to whether the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department should remain under state control or revert back to local control as it was years ago. Today (Thursday) Mayor Lucas who is automatically a member of the Kansas City Board of police commissioners, said he thought “it was time to ask voters whether the city council and mayor can make decisions about the Kansas City Police Department.” He said he hears from people who “want more police accountability”.
