The Jackson County Legislature on Wednesday approved a major package of grants totaling $35 million to support nonprofit organizations that provide housing, health services, workforce development, and other essential community services across the county with six legislators voting to approve, while three abstained, and one voted
against.
“This vote represents the culmination of months of work, review, and conversation,” said Legislature Chairman DaRon McGee. “It required balancing many priorities and building agreement across the body, and today that work paid off.”
The approved funding will support organizations delivering direct services to residents, while providing certainty that allows providers to plan, hire staff, and expand or stabilize programs.
