Fauci: ‘Absolutely Not’ Safe to Host Super Bowl Parties

Dr. Anthony Fauci says it’s “absolutely not” safe to have Super Bowl parties this Sunday.

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Biden’s chief medical adviser said such get-togethers aren’t smart amid the coronavirus pandemic and run the risk of becoming a superspreader event.

“Watch the Super Bowl on TV, enjoy it, have a party in your house with your family, with the people who are there,” Fauci said Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” CNN reported. “You don’t want parties with people that you haven’t had much contact with — you just don’t know if they’re infected. So as difficult as that is, at least this time around, just lay low and cool it.

“If people abide by the public health measures—masking, distancing, avoiding congregate settings, and being outside and at a distance from others, you could be OK, as long as people abide by that and don’t slip,” he said, CNN reported.

As of Wednesday, the U.S. has roughly 26.5 million coronavirus cases and 448,000 related death, both tops globally, according to data from a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
