Excitement keeps building since the reigning NFL Super Bowl champions won the 2021 AFC Championship game, garnering them a chance to bring home Super Bowl’s coveted Lombardi Trophy once again.

In what has become known as “The Kid v. The Goat” Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will pit quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the youngest age 25 or under ever to start in two Super Bowls--against Tom Brady, now 43, but who was the youngest quarterback to win two Super Bowls, winning his second at 26 years, 182 days-old (Super Bowl XXXVIII). Mahomes will be 25 years, 143 days old if he beats Brady in Super Bowl LV.

Also, Brady is the youngest quarterback to win two Super Bowl MVPs, having won those honors after winning his first two Super Bowl titles. If Mahomes beats Brady and wins MVP, he’ll be the youngest quarterback to win two Super
Bowls and win two Super Bowl MVPs—all before age 26.

Speaking of age, there is an 18-year difference between the two quarterbacks.

The 14-2 Chiefs game against the 11-5 Buccaneers in Tampa Bay, Fla. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CST).

Meanwhile, although under strict COVID-19 pandemic guidelines from CDC and K.C.’s Mayor Quinton Lucas who, will attend the game in Tampa, tons of Kansas City businesses, restaurants and residents are all decked out in Chiefs’ Kingdom regalia and banners. Chiefs fans are spread throughout the metropolitan area to support the champs in their quest to “Run it Back”—the now popular mantra that was coined by the team and fans during this year’s football season as they anticipated a return to the Super Bowl.

While Mayor Lucas will be at the game, Missouri’s Governor Mike Parson early Thursday announced that the state Capitol’s dome will be lit in red beginning Friday and will remain so until the Chiefs return from the Super Bowl on Monday, Feb. 8 “We couldn’t be more excited for the Chiefs to return to the Super Bowl, especially after a challenging year for our state,” Governor Parson said.

“The Chiefs have played an important role not just in Kansas City and Missouri but throughout the history of football.

Our sports teams unite us as fans and provide an outlet of relief during times of struggle, and we are proud to have the Chiefs represent the great state of Missouri at the Super Bowl once again.”

“Let’s run it back and bring home another Super Bowl trophy!” Governor Parson said. “Go Chiefs!”No problem.

During a pregame press conference today (Thursday) KC Chiefs’ coach Andy Reid in response to a reporter’s question about his team in preparation for gameday that he just wanted to make sure they “Got the game plan down” and they’re “ready to go.”

And as far as Mahomes’ advice to his teammates before game day, he told reporters at a press conference Wednesday that on the night before game day he tells them to “start visualizing plays when you go to bed.”

Sounds like a winning strategy.
