Dear Neighbor,
Last weekend, we all watched in horror the news that federal agents had killed another American citizen in Minneapolis, less than two weeks after ICE officials killed Renee Good. Like many of our fellow Missourians, my heart breaks for the family of Alex Pretti, and I am furious about these killings and the chaos that is being sown in communities across the country.
Last week, I voted against funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE and CBP, precisely because of the unnecessary dangers this agency is creating all over this great nation. And last year, I voted against the Republican budget that included historic cuts to health care and nutrition programs while providing over $170 billion in funding for ICE and other immigration enforcement with no direct oversight.
As the Senate debates increased funding for DHS, I want to hear from you: Should Congress hold ICE accountable?
I want you to know that I have called for the impeachment of Secretary Noem, and I am demanding a full, independent investigation into Department of Homeland Security, the dangerous conduct of ICE, and the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Additionally, I have called on Congress to immediately bring administration officials before Congress to answer questions on behalf of the American people.
Every public official and federal agent responsible for these unjustified killings must be held accountable, and I will do everything in my power to ensure justice is served.
