Black Lives Matter.

Art and a “passion to do the right thing” is becoming a theme that, since the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minnesota two months ago, is mending race relations in ways unseen since Martin Luther King led the March on Washington nearly 60 years ago.

But vestiges of hate, resistant to inevitable change, surfaced in Kansas City this week as a constant reminder of its ever persistent presence.

Six “Black Lives Matter” murals two weeks ago, on Saturday, Sept. 5, were painted on the surface of busy, welltravelled streets in various parts of the metropolitan area by more than 1,000 volunteers of all ages representing every race, creed, color and religion as they converged in the separate locations to “fine-tune” creative messages designed by six local black artists.
