SHELTER KC URGENTLY PREPARES FOR DANGEROUS COLD WEATHER, CALLS ON COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORT

The Kansas City Globe e-Edition

Winter in Kansas City brings bitter cold, snow, and unpredictable temperature swings — conditions that can quickly become life-threatening for individuals experiencing homelessness. With near-freezing and sub-freezing temperatures expected in the days ahead, Shelter KC is taking immediate action to ensure no one seeking warmth and safety is left outside in the cold.

To meet the rising need, Shelter KC has expanded its capacity with additional emergency beds and is partnering closely with the City of Kansas City and local shelter providers. When the temperature drops to 32°F or below, no one will be turned away, and guests are welcome to remain indoors throughout the day to avoid dangerous exposure.

Urgent Needs
As more men and women come indoors for safety, Shelter KC is in critical need of:

  • Warm coats and winter clothing (sizes XL–5X are especially needed)

  • Hygiene essentials: razors, lotion, body wash

  • Cold-weather accessories: scarves, gloves, hats, socks, and underwear

Every donated item directly supports someone seeking warmth and protection during severe weather conditions.
