Democratic Candidates Make Big Strides In The Municipal Elections Across The State

TOPEKA, KS – This year's municipal elections have now set the stage for 2026 as Democratic candidates performed well across the state in their respective races, showing strong momentum going into the next election cycle. In all five of Kansas’s largest counties, Democrats had an overall win rate better than Last night’s election returns put us on track to see more than 70% of registered Democrats in contested races winning.

In the face of a surge of early voters and high turnout on election day, it's no coincidence that the Republican super-majority in the Kansas House made the choice to forgo a special session to gerrymander the Kansas Congressional maps. They see the same thing we all saw Tuesday night - that the people of Kansas were bipartisanship, civility and freedom in our politics! Once again, the eyes of the country are on Kansas and Kansas showed that the will of the people prevails over the wants of DC politicians.

“We could not be more thrilled with the outcomes overall! But this was no accident and if there is anyone surprised by the results – it isn’t Democrats.” Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass said. We have been building Democratic coalitions across Kansas for several years and the resulting Democratic unity and victories are the output of all that work specifically at our County Party level.” said Repass. “With the leadership of Governor Kelly and our partnership with key groups on the ground – especially our County Chairs, volunteers and a strong slate of candidates – this was the outcome that we expected. Today we celebrate on behalf of all Kansans who have sent another clear message that Kansas is a state that wants bipartisanship, civility and freedom in our politics!”
